Kelsey Hawk is a visual artist, psychotherapist, advocate, and explorer currently living and working in Ventura & Humboldt County, CA.

She has a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology and a BFA with emphasis in Art History, Theory, & Criticism from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has additional international training in expressive arts and studio arts from Metafora Centre of Art Therapy Studies in Barcelona, ES. Looking at Her work is metaphorical. She plays with symbols and makes work about uncovering, suffering, trauma, and redemption. She is not interested in making pretty images but is rather concerned with the experience of connecting to the visceral act of art-making--both a euphoric moment of inward transcendence and a psychotic terror and panic inducing journeying towards the awesomeness of archetype of self. She embraces a lowbrow aesthetic and her materials tell a story about hierarchy, class dynamics, and systems of power and control in society at-large. In her life and work, she is constantly looking for meaning and trying pay attention to what often goes unnoticed.

When she is not in her studio or in session, you can find Kelsey tromping through mountains, learning to play the fiddle, or out in the field looking at stars.
